We are at an exciting point in RNIB (Royal National Institute of Blind People)’s journey and are looking for talented people – who share our values – to join our Board of Trustees to help us achieve our ambitions.

We are working hard to provide support, essential services and campaigns to challenge old ways of thinking about sight loss. But we are not just thinking about the here and now, we are building for the future.

RNIB needs to continue modernising and ensure it can give people what they need, when they need it, whatever the future holds.

To help us do this, RNIB is seeking two new Trustees – with specific experience and expertise – to join our Board.

RNIB Trustees ensure the Board is leading on, setting and overseeing the implementation of the organisation’s strategy, while supporting – and holding to account – the CEO and management team. They ensure RNIB achieves its aims effectively for maximum impact.

The roles:

We are looking for two Trustees to Chair the Audit, Risk and Assurance & Safeguarding Committees.

Chair of Audit, Risk & Assurance

Strong financial management experience gained in either a commercial, academic or civil society setting
Understanding of financial audit/ risk
Exposure to and experience of advising board committees in either an executive or non-executive capacity

Chair of Safeguarding Committee

Senior leadership experience within human resources, strategic people management, culture or safeguarding gained in either a commercial, academic or civil society setting
Proven experience working at board level either in an executive or non-executive capacity

Skills and competencies:

Confident and effective communication and influencing, skills, with a willingness to provide constructive challenge to peers and the Executive Leadership Team.
Ability to facilitate change and apply this within RNIB.
Ability to think strategically and analyse complex information and concepts.

As an organisation led by blind and partially sighted people, candidates with lived experience of sight loss are critical to our governance and particularly encouraged to apply.

Time Commitment:

Board meetings are held four times a year with two additional away- days each year.

If the Trustee is part of one or more of RNIB’s five committees, a further four meeting a year are expected.

In all, each Trustee is expected to commit at least 18 days a year with a term of appointment for three years.
