Variety, the Children’s Charity – Chair of Trustees

Variety, the Children’s Charity, has been changing the lives of disabled and disadvantaged children for 75 years. With His Majesty King Charles III as our Royal Patron and a bold new strategy for growth, we are looking for an exceptional leader to become our next Chair of Trustees.

Every child deserves the opportunity to live their best life. In the UK, millions of children face poverty, disability, or both. Variety provides practical support—funding specialist disability equipment, accessible transport, and unforgettable experiences—to improve mobility, independence, and self-esteem. Over the years, we have provided more than 6,000 Sunshine Coaches for SEND schools and non-profits, thousands of wheelchairs and specialist equipment grants, and life-enhancing Great Days Out for disadvantaged children.

Now, as we embark on an ambitious new strategy to double our income in three years, we seek an inspiring and strategic leader to guide our mission.

As Chair of Trustees, you will provide strategic leadership to the Board, ensuring the charity thrives. Acting as a high-profile champion, you will use your networks to raise Variety’s profile and impact. You will work closely with the CEO and Board of Trustees to shape the charity’s future, engaging key stakeholders, including partners in businesses, donors, and celebrity ambassadors. Supporting our growth ambitions, you will also oversee Variety’s iconic Showbusiness and Disability Awards.

This is a voluntary role for a visionary leader with board-level experience in charity, business, or the public sector. You should have strong strategic and financial acumen, as well as extensive networks in media, entertainment, or business. A deep commitment to championing children’s rights and inclusion is essential.

The role is based in London, with some flexibility. It requires a commitment of approximately two to three days per month, including board meetings, events, and stakeholder engagement. The initial term is three years, with the possibility of renewal for a second term.

This is an extraordinary opportunity to shape the future of a world-renowned charity at a pivotal moment in its history. As Chair, you will make a lasting impact on thousands of young lives while enhancing your own leadership legacy.

Variety is committed to diversity and welcomes applicants from all backgrounds. Join us and help create a brighter future for every child.
