Being a Trustee of New Forest Mencap involves having duties, responsibilities and liabilities under both Company Law as Directors and under Charity law.
These include:
- ensuring that New Forest Mencap complies with its Constitution, Charity Law, Company Law, the Care Act and any other relevant legislation or regulations
- defining and approving strategic goals to ensure New Forest Mencap pursues its Charitable Objectives
- making sure that New Forest Mencap has a vision, strategy and policies that exist for the benefit of people with learning disabilities.
What are we looking for?
We are particularly interested in hearing from individuals with Company Secretarial skills, HR, Legal and Safeguarding. If you have other professional skills and experience, we will be pleased to hear from you.
As an organisation we are particularly keen to ensure that our Trustees are fully representative of the community in which we work and we would warmly welcome applications from people with a diverse range of background, ethnicity, gender, culture and physical ability. We welcome people who can bring their experience, knowledge and skills to the benefit of our charity and its beneficiaries.

Time Commitment

The Board currently meet monthly in New Milton. We aim to meet for 2 hours. Trustees’ appointments will initially be for a term of 3 years.

Shortlisted applicants will be invited to an informal discussion and may be invited to observe a meeting of Trustees. Successful applicants will be asked to take up their appointment at the next Board meeting following a satisfactory DBS check. The current Chair will be happy to respond to requests for an initial telephone conversation.
