About the Farm Safety Foundation

The Farm Safety Foundation, or Yellow Wellies as many know them, is a small independent charity (Charity No: 1159000) established in 2014 to raise awareness of farm safety among the next generation of farmers, challenge and change their attitudes to risk-taking and poor mental health and reduce the number of life-changing and life-ending incidents that continue to give farming the poorest safety record of any occupation in the UK.

About the role

As we further develop our strategy, we are looking for new Trustees who can support us to continue to develop, grow, and engage with more key stakeholders from our farmers, agricultural labour force, and education sector through to the government. We are looking for people who bring specific skills and experiences to the board and who are passionate about safety and our rural communities.

Who we are looking for

In particular, we are looking for people with experience and expertise in:

  • Agriculture – this could be from farming, food retail, food processing, and beyond
  • Working with rural communities
  • Policy influencing
  • Health and safety
  • Governance – gained in the charity, education, not for profit and/or private sector

Importantly, any applicants need to be deeply passionate about the aims of the charity.

As a charity that covers the whole of the UK, we are keen to ensure our board represents all four countries, therefore we would be particularly interested to hear from people who work or reside in Scotland and Wales.

We want to ensure our board represents the communities we serve and our society as a whole and so, we are keen to ensure that our board represents this diversity.

We are also keen to hear from people from diverse backgrounds including all aspects of protected characteristics including more representation of women, people from ethnic minority backgrounds, and people with disabilities.

We want to continue to foster a board culture of support, collaboration, innovation, and challenge.
