Trustee Praxis Community Projects

Job description

Are you passionate about social justice? Are you concerned about the treatment of people who have migrated to the UK? Praxis is seeking new trustees to join our board.

This is a great opportunity to get involved with an award-winning, dynamic charity that has been supporting migrant communities and creating systemic change for 40 years from its base in East London. We believe that people who have migrated to the UK should  not be marginalised or mistreated because of their immigration status.

Our strategic plan sets out our vision and how we work and can be found attached.

Trustees are volunteers who play a critical role in the overall governance of the charity and in setting and monitoring our strategy.

Our trustees attend and contribute to quarterly board meetings, using their personal skills, experience and attributes to help us to reach sound decisions, contribute to sub-groups and support our staff and fellow trustees in delivering the core purpose of Praxis. A detailed role description and outline of the time commitment can be found attached.

About you: Individuals are sought who have a strong empathy with our work and vision and share our values and commitment to social and racial justice. Praxis particularly welcomes applications from individuals with personal experience of the immigration system in the UK and from racialized backgrounds. Our current trustee board is diverse: 60% female, 40% male and 50% people of colour.

At this time we particularly seek individuals with HR knowledge and expertise to help us develop our people strategy and contribute to our diversity and equity work. We are also keen to recruit someone with digital expertise.

Applications will be considered on a rolling basis.
