Trustee of the MS Society

Job description

 About us

We’re the UK’s biggest organisation dedicated to supporting people with MS and those who care about them.

We fund world-leading scientists to search for new treatments. We make sure everyone can access expert information and services to help them live well with MS. We speak up together to make sure everyone’s voice is heard, and rights are protected. We support each other when times are tough and celebrate together when they’re good. We make sure no one has to feel alone.

Together we’re a community of people living with MS: friends, families, carers, scientists, researchers, healthcare professionals, campaigners, and volunteers.

About this role

Our Board of Trustees plays a critical role in setting our strategic direction, supporting and challenging the Executive Group, and setting and upholding our values and culture. They agree our annual plans, budget and performance targets. They oversee how we manage our finances and risk, and ensure we comply with the law.

The role of Trustee is voluntary and is unpaid.

About you

We consider a person’s skills and diversity of lived experience when deciding whether to nominate them for appointment. This ensures that our Board has a wide range of expertise to effectively scrutinise and challenge our work. And that our strategic direction, values and culture reflect what is important to all parts of the MS community.

We welcome applications from people with any of the skills our Board needs to provide expert oversight of our ambitious strategy and transformation programme:

  • Data, digital and technology
  • Finance
  • Fundraising
  • Marketing and engagement

And we’re keen to hear from you if your lived experience could enrich our Board’s understanding of what matters to:

  • Younger people with MS
  • LGBTQ+ people
  • People with Black, Asian or minority ethnic heritage
  • People with advanced MS and the people who care for them

If you’re appointed, we’ll expect you to share our values and have – or be prepared to develop – an understanding of MS. And you’ll need to be sure you can commit the time and energy it’ll take to be an active and effective member of our Board.

How to apply

Please use the link below to submit your application and upload your CV. Please use your application to explain how your skills and experience would help you in this role. Please also tell us about any personal connection you have to MS and the MS Society. You’ll be asked to provide contact details for two referees – they should be people who are able to comment specifically on your suitability for this role.
