About CPRE London

 We campaign to save and promote green spaces in Greater London, and to make our capital city better, greener and healthier place for everyone to live in, work in and enjoy. CPRE London is part of the national network of CPRE, the countryside.

 

What will you be doing?

  • Ensuring the charity complies with its governing Constitution document, fulfils its charitable objectives and acts in accordance with the Charity Commission’s good governance guidelines
  • Contributing actively by giving strategic direction, setting overall policy, defining goals, and evaluating performance against agreed targets
  • Supporting the effective and efficient administration of the charity
  • Contributing to investment decisions to ensure the financial sustainability of the charity
  • Supporting the recruitment of volunteers, staff, and contractors
  • Being a positive advocate for the charity and encouraging others to support our work
  • Safeguarding the good name and values of the charity

What are we looking for?

We are currently looking for volunteers with an enthusiasm to protect, enhance and enjoy the green spaces in London to join the Trustee board. Whether you are an experienced Trustee or wanting to take your first step at Board level, we would like to hear from you. Ideally, our new Trustees will be experienced in one of the following areas:

  • Knowledge of planning, green space, and environmental policy and how government works in London
  • Public health and wellbeing in an urban environment
  • Working with communities from different/diverse cultural and socio-economic background
  • Charity management and/or finance
  • Ability and willingness to devote the required time (see time commitment)

Skills / experience:

  • Experience of one of the areas listed above at a strategic level, in either commercial, public or charity sector
  • An understanding of, or interest in, the charity sector – previous sector experience is a plus, but not essential
  • Understanding of the legal duties of a Trustee and the importance of carrying them out
  • Proven strategic thinking ability combined with the ability to get to the heart of an issue
  • Integrity and objectivity which can be applied to all aspects of the role
  • Ability to network and build effective relationships with other Board Trustees and the Charity’s operational team
  • Strong organisational and administration skills
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • A personal interest in ensuring London becomes a greener and healthier city

Commitment:

The Trustee board meets four times a year at our London office in Farringdon with meetings starting at 18.00 and generally finishing by 20.00. There may be ad hoc commitments in between the board meetings. In the autumn, the Trustees and staff attend a one-day off-site strategy meeting in the Greater London area. Trustees are also encouraged to attend the AGM.

All Trustees serve a one-year term of office from election at the annual AGM and are eligible for re-election for a further one-year term with a maximum of six years’ service.
