The Encephalitis Society is seeking a trustee to support with its international work. This might be a person with international non-profit/NGO experience and/or a person with experience of health and medicine on an international scale.
Overview of the role
We are looking for someone who has extensive experience of working within an international field in health and medicine and/or in the international non-profit/NGO field, and who will support and collaborate with members of the board and staff to build out the future blueprint for this area. This role is voluntary and unremunerated.
How can I contribute?
There is no need to have trustee experience to apply, but a keen desire to support our work is essential.
As a Trustee you will use your skills and experience to guide us through exciting times, shaping our international strategy alongside our governance, contributing to our strategic future and acting as an ambassador for all aspects of our work.
As trustee, we are looking to utilise your knowledge and experience across this area of expertise and provide the board with your recommendations and ideas. We may from time to time ask you to amend, update information and work with the wider team to bring this to life.
We hold board meetings four times a year – a mix of weekend and evenings. Trustees are also expected to engage with the life of the charity from time-to-time, for example attending our events.
A bit about us
Encephalitis is inflammation of the brain. The inflammation is caused either by an infection or through the immune system attacking the brain in error.
The Encephalitis Society provides support and information to people affected by the condition, as well as to medical professionals with an interest. We raise awareness of encephalitis and collaborate on research into the condition.
OUR VISION: A world where there is less death and disability from encephalitis.
OUR MISSION: Rebuilding futures around the world by saving lives, accelerating awareness and driving research.
The Society is based in Malton, North Yorkshire and our trustees attend from all over the UK however for this position, and in support of our commitment to diversity and inclusion we would be particularly interested, but not exclusively, in hearing from under-represented groups such as from the black and asian communities, from those under 30 years of age, from people with disabilities including those who are neuro-diverse, from LGBTQIA+ communities and candidates from Ireland/Eire.
The Encephalitis Society is a state-of-the-art, life-saving, award-winning charity who delivers its quality services with passion and dynamism. We are highly regarded among the scientific and medical communities as well as among those we serve. We are looking for this new person who wants to work within such an organisation, and who in doing so, will make a real difference to people whose lives have been devastated by this condition.
