Job description

We’re an award-winning national charity working with local communities to promote positive mental health & wellbeing through music. Our programmes support people struggling with depression, anxiety, PTSD, bipolar, psychosis, neurodiverse conditions including ADHD, autism spectrum disorder, dyslexia, dyspraxia and other learning disabilities.

We’re seeking a trustee Honorary Treasurer to support the board and charity’s staff to ensure financial records and systems are in place appropriate for a small charity and compliant with legal and regulatory requirements. You’ll provide input with reporting / forecasting income and expenditure, identifying funding opportunities, and developing strategic plans.

Duties

  • Provide financial advice to CEO, charity staff and board in plain language.
  • Ensure financial systems are legal and constitutional within realistic accounting practice for small charity.
  • Suggest alternative scenarios and evaluate strategic plans and risk management.
  • Contribute to production of annual accounts and budget.
  • Provide guidance and support with maintaining records and financial procedures and controls regarding PAYE, NI and pension payments.
  • Appraise viability of financial plans, proposals and reserves policy.
  • Support CEO and staff team with prioritising payments to creditors and collection of payments from debtors.
  • Be available as a signatory on documents, funding applications and payments.

Person Specification

  • Understanding and acceptance of the legal duties, responsibilities and liabilities of trusteeship within a small charity.
  • Experience of current fundraising practice relevant to voluntary and community organisations.
  • Knowledge of bookkeeping, financial management and analysis for small charities.
  • Good communication skills,
  • Competent use of IT skills including Excel and preferably Quickbooks.
