About The Baobab Centre for Young Survivors in Exile

Baobab is a non-residential therapeutic community that offers all its members individual and group psychotherapy, English classes, various arts-based activities, music workshops, casework and practical support including supporting young people access employment, benefits, housing, social care, healthcare, and education. Baobab also supports community members through the asylum process helping them access legal advice and preparing clinical reports. Simultaneously, Baobab advocates for the rights of this population and all those in their position.

Your role as Treasurer is key to support the Board make strategic decisions concerning the financial health of the organisation and ensure we fulfil our plans.

 

What you will be doing?

As well as fulfilling the duties of a Trustee, the Treasurer maintains an overview of Baobab’s financial affairs. The Treasurer ensures that effective and appropriate financial measures, controls and procedures are put in place and reports to the Board at regular intervals about the financial health of the organisation.

The Treasurer will be responsible for the following:

  • Presenting financial reports to the Board in a format that helps the Board understand the charity’s financial position
  • Advising the Board on how to carry out its financial responsibilities
  • Working with professional advisors
  • Overseeing the preparation and scrutiny of annual accounts

 

Who are we looking for?

We are keen to recruit Trustees with financial expertise/accounting experience.

We are looking for someone who is willing to bring energy, enthusiasm and commitment to the role and who will broaden the diversity of thinking on our Board.

You do not need previous governance experience but knowledge of charity accounts is desirable.

Time commitment

Estimated time is six hours a month. Trustees meet six times a year and there is a subcommittee that meets regularly to oversee finance.
