Non-exec Members for the Royal Masonic Benevolent Institution Care Company

Non-Executive Committee Members
Royal Masonic Benevolent Institution Care Company (RMBI Care Co.)
London

RMBI Care Co. is one of the oldest health and social care charities with a long and distinguished history reaching back to 1842 and covering over 180 years of service to freemasons, dependents, and the wider community. It is both a registered charity and a limited company. We are part of the Masonic Charitable Foundation, which is our sole shareholder, although as a company and charity we have significant autonomy to operate within our governing articles of association.

We have 17 homes across England and Wales of which all except one cater for older people needing care and support, many because of a dementia or nursing need.  Our remaining facility is a small community home for people with a learning disability. Our homes provide places for up to 1,000 residents with over 500 new admissions and discharges seen annually.   Most of our English homes are rated ‘good’, with four rated ‘outstanding’ by our regulator the CQC, with our two Welsh Homes ‘fully compliant’ as regulated by the CIW. Our relative and resident surveys continue to give very positive feedback about the services we offer. During September seven individuals from our Homes have been shortlisted for the Great British Care Awards finals reflecting the quality of delivery.

We have spent much of the past 18 months looking at how best to develop to meet the needs of our potential beneficiaries and had developed an ambitious, multi-million pound, 20-year vision including replacement, modernisation and refurbishment of our homes. The current economic climate caused us to pause our strategy, but we are still progressing a 10-year Modernisation Plan to update current homes and continue to assess when the economy will make it possible to return to our original intentions.

To facilitate delivery of our ambition we have reviewed our governance arrangements and now seek to expand the expertise available within our committee structure.  As part of this process we are also seeking to ensure that we embrace principles of equity and diversity to create a more inclusive top team.  For those who are successful and enjoy the role of non-executive committee member there may be the future opportunity of becoming a full trustee.

We are looking for people who are committed to the work of the charity and can afford on average up to a day a month to support our work. This will involve attending meetings, which are now usually convened virtually every couple of months, preparation for those meetings and one or two whole days sessions in person each year.

The Board of Trustees are particularly seeking to develop skills and experience within its committees, acquired at a senior level in the following areas:

If you believe that you would be a valuable addition to one of our committees and would like to help shape our work, we look forward to receiving your application.
