Honorary Treasurer – Political Studies Association

Job description

We are looking for our next Honorary Treasurer of the Political Studies Association of the UK (PSA). We welcome applications from both current PSA Members and suitably experienced people from outside the Political Studies academic community. You will join brilliant colleagues on our board of trustees (known as the Executive Committee) in setting and driving the PSA’s strategy and mission. About Us | The Political Studies Association (PSA) The Honorary Treasurer role primarily involves overseeing the health of our finances and presenting the budgets, management accounts and financial statements to their trustee colleagues in the Executive Committee, in close collaboration with the Chief Executive and Finance personnel (who manage finances day to day). They ensure the charity’s financial resources are invested in accordance with the PSA’s governing document, scheme of delegation, policies, procedures, and strategy and ensure that these are fit for purpose. The Honorary Treasurer also leads the annual audit/independent examination of accounts and reporting process for the Executive Committee. A fuller description of the role is given in our bye-laws which can be found here. The Political Studies Association is the leading learned society of its kind in the UK and welcomes students, academics, and practitioners within its membership from around the world. Since 1950 we have supported and developed Political Studies through bringing colleagues together at conferences, in specialist groups and through our academic publishing. We are a dynamic and vibrant organisation, and we look forward to gaining your support in seeing this community thrive in the future. Knowledge of Political Studies, charity or not-for-profit accounting, operations and fund-raising is desirable but not essential. We will make sure you receive trustee and any other training to help you develop and succeed in this role. All charities have to be ready for change and agile in the face of challenge. We would therefore welcome applicants with experience of overseeing transformational change and asset management including premises. Remuneration: Trustee roles are unremunerated. However, expenses to attend in person meetings will be paid. You will be supported to attend the PSA’s annual conference during which the association’s AGM is held. In 2024, this will be held at the University of Strathclyde in Glasgow in late March.
