Chair of Trustees for The Kite Trust

Job description

We are looking for a new Chair of Trustees to join our Board.

We’re very open to welcoming someone who hasn’t been a Chair before, provided you have a passion and dedication to human rights and equality.

It would be beneficial if you have worked in the charity sector at some point in the past and have experience of working with a Board of Trustees (either as a Trustee or as a reporting officer to a Board).

We also would particularly encourage applications from those who are under-represented on our board compared to our service users and local communities including those who are:
• Trans, non-binary, gender diverse and gender questioning
• Disabled or living with a long term health condition
• Neurodivergent
• South Asian
• Eastern European
• Gypsy, Roma or Traveller

All Trustees are expected to be an ambassador for the work of The Kite Trust, which means being a proud advocate of LGBTQ+ rights and equality.

 

Personal Qualities:

·       Comfortable in public facing roles involving public addresses, engaging with the media, funders, volunteers and a wide range of people involved in the charity

·       Leadership and facilitation skills; how to work with a wide range of people, host meetings, encourage discussion and summarise action points

·       Integrity and discretion; respecting the confidentiality of information discussed at Board meetings

·       An understanding of the legal responsibilities of charity Boards (training available if needed)

·       A commitment to the values of The Kite Trust and an advocate for LGBTQ+ equality

·       Good communication, tact and diplomacy – a willingness to speak your own mind but to listen to the views of others

·       Availability to give the required time commitment to support the organisation
