Non-Executive HR and Compliance Director – Chiltern Music Therapy

Full Job Description

All Directors meetings are online with face to face meeting in London or South East, twice a year. Minimum commitment: 1 hour online meeting per month, plus 2 half day workshops face to face per year. Additional input as required: Directors may occasionally be required to support the operational team with areas related to their skill set and expertise. Induction period: Attendance at various online meetings over the initial month, approximately 16 hours.

£1500 per annum renumeration.

What we need:

  • We are looking to recruit a new Non-Executive Director with HR, compliance and/or employee care experience, to add to the skill set and experience of our board.
  • We encourage candidates from a broad background, we actively encourage diversity of age, gender and ethnicity on our Board.
  • Lived experience that relates to our work in any way, is particularly desirable.
  • Skills in HR, Compliance, Care.

What we are looking for:

  • Good organisational skills and an interest in how organisations work.
  • A commitment to Chiltern for a minimum 2 years.
  • A willingness to learn and a positive attitude to thinking about things differently.
  • A willingness to have high-level and abstract conversations.
  • A holistic perspective, considering the big picture and wider oversight.
  • Being comfortable talking about finances (or at least asking simple questions).
  • Being involved in decision-making as needed.
  • Being comfortable with uncertainty.
  • Asking good questions!

What will you be doing:

  • Attendance at Board meetings will be your primary way of learning about the needs of the organisation.
  • Utilising your experience to identify gaps and tensions in existing processes and approaches and supporting team members to consider new solutions and approaches to work in your area of expertise.
  • Being a guide, mentor and support to team members across the organisation, as needed.
  • Committing to learning about our way of working and your own personal and professional growth.

  • As an Employee Owned organisation, Chiltern has a Board of Directors that seeks to guide and advise on key areas of business development, strategy, finance, organisational development, staff welfare and legality. the organisation and its members.
  • The Board of Directors is 18 months old in its current structure.
  • The board is there to safeguard the organisation and be a legal buck-stop, not to make decisions, set strategy or interfere in the day-to-day running of the organisation.
  • The board connects directly to the membership council and the anchor space to create a holistic circle of care around the organisation.
