NEDs for National Ice Centre & Motorpoint Arena

As the premier entertainment venue in the East Midlands, the National Ice Centre & Motorpoint Arena, Nottingham (NIC) is seeking to identify and appoint up to six Non-Executive Directors to join our Board at an exciting juncture in our development.

Our people and those around us are at the heart of what we do and how we behave. We want our venues to be environments for everyone to enjoy; whether they’re attending a concert, cheering on their favourite sports team, or as a workplace. Our vision is to bring people together to enjoy live events and experiences that create lifelong memories, and everything we do is underpinned by passion and performance.

For decades, the NIC has positively impacted the economy and culture of the East Midlands. However, the COVID-19 pandemic gave rise to numerous obstacles, such as a sharp decline in footfall and turnover, and the fact that many employees had to be furloughed. We are proud of all that our organisation and people have achieved to get us back on track and delivering world-class events for our communities – both during the pandemic and the recovery that followed.

We are keen to build on this momentum and our recent successes, and bolstering our Board with six new Non-Executive Directors is fundamental to this. This is an exciting platform to make a meaningful impact by guiding our strategic direction, advocating for us in stakeholder and external engagements, and work constructively with our talented and enthusiastic executive team.

As a Non-Executive Director, some of the things you can expect to do are; guide, support, and monitor different people and operations across the organisation; maintain our financial wellbeing; and feed into the development of the overall strategy.

To succeed in this important role, you will have: a commitment to EDI values diversity, equality, and inclusivity; excellent stakeholder management experience; a strong understanding of effective governance and decision-making at Board level or equivalent; and excellent communication, advocacy, and teamworking skills.

We welcome all applications, particularly from individuals who can evidence experience in one (or more) of the following areas:

  • Digital marketing
  • Communications
  • Finance
  • Employment law
  • Welfare and safeguarding
  • Equality, Diversity, and Inclusivity.

The NIC recognises the benefits of greater diversity at Board level and beyond, and we are committed to ensuring an inclusive culture and environment. We are keen to build a more representative Board and welcome all applications, particularly from women, members of underrepresented ethnic communities, those from LGBTQ+ communities, as well as people with disabilities.

Remuneration: N/A
Term of Office: Four years but can be extended following board approval.
Time Commitment: 3 – 4 Full Board meetings per year; 4 Finance Working Group meetings per year; regular visibility within the venue in area of expertise and experience.

The closing date for applications is 9am (GMT) on Monday 27th March 2023.
