£28 – 30,000 pa Part-time
The OS Board is seeking to identify a Non-Executive Director, with background in the data and technology sector to contribute to the strategy development and support the commercial transformation of the business. The appointment will be for a term of 3 years, with a minimum time commitment of approximately 25 days per year. The post attracts an annual fee of £28,000 per annum plus expenses, paid through payroll.
The Role
As our Non-Executive Director, you will attend Board meetings, Committee meetings, away days, site visits and meetings with the Executive. In person meetings take place in London and at Ordnance Survey headquarters near Southampton, some meetings are virtual by necessity.

What we’re looking for in our Non-Executive Director:
We are looking for someone with recent experience operating as a senior decision maker (e.g. CEO, CTO, CIO) in business-to-business or business-to-government companies. The ideal candidate will have experience within the data and/or technology sector, even better if you’ve some proximity to the Geospatial Industry.
You don’t need to be a current Non-Executive Director as we have an experienced Board that can support you make this step. It is important, though, that you have a strong track record of commercial growth and can work collaboratively with the Board and CEO to support the business as it continues to develop and further commercialises its data and technology know-how.
We are looking for a candidate who ideally has:
- A track record of commercial leadership with current knowledge of strategic development and business growth. Current or recent experience as a CEO, CTO, or CIO.
- Experience gained in relevant business environments, such as the business-to-business Services, Data, and/or Technology sectors;
- Experience of developing business growth strategies to enable a business to scale, ideally including internationally, both through existing and new revenue streams and through the development of strategic partnerships;
- Able to be an effective ‘sounding board’, and, on occasion, a ‘critical friend’ and mentor to the CEO and executive management team;
- Able to command the confidence of key stakeholders such as industry, Government and other public bodies/partners and an appreciation of the public sector context in which OS operates; and
- A proven track record as a senior level commercial executive.
