NED for Ofgem

£20,000 pa

There has never been a time when the energy sector has been in the spotlight in the way it is today. Fundamental questions around affordability, security of supply and the transition to net zero have brought this universal service to the forefront of personal and political priorities. As the independent regulator of the sector, Ofgem plays a central role across this high-profile agenda.

We’re working to ensure that, set against this complex backdrop, the best interests of energy customers remain the priority. Our Board plays a central role in setting out Ofgem’s strategic direction to achieve this and measuring progress against our priorities. You can expect to be asked to consider some of the big questions that the energy sector faces: the need for extensive new energy infrastructure; how to ensure that the retail market is more resilient, while still offering choice to consumers through decentralisation; how to protect the interests of more vulnerable customers; and the ongoing drive to decarbonise our energy supply.

We want members of our Board to bring a diverse range of professional and personal experience to this work – these different perspectives add value and rigour to what we do. Right now, we have four non-executive opportunities that can draw on a range of professional insight. We’re looking for individuals who can offer expertise in: consumer representation or advocacy; data and digitalisation within the energy sector; commercial opportunities and risks within our work; and regulatory economics and its impact to behavioural and economic outcomes.

Whatever, your professional specialism, it’s important that you have senior leadership experience within a large and complex organisation and that you can quickly build trust and rapport with key stakeholders. These relationships will be key in enabling you to provoke open and constructive debate on current practice and put forward ideas on new approaches and solutions.

Committed to pursuing the best outcomes for energy consumers, you’ll recognise how these roles can make a difference to every household and business in Great Britain.
