£2,000 – £10,000 per annum – part-time
Do you want to make a difference to our tenants’ lives and guide the future of ASHA? We are currently looking for 2 Non-Executive Directors to join our busy team in Camberwell (some travel to the Midlands if needed). With the right expertise, one Board member can play the role of our Senior Independent Director (SID).
We are on an exciting journey and ASHA needs fresh expertise in line with the emerging needs of the organisation. We want to reposition ourselves with a refreshed strategy, and further strengthen our governance arrangements.
Salary: Board members (circa £2,000-£3,000 p.a. for around 1 day a month), Senior Independent Director (circa £10,000 p.a. for around 1-2 days a month)
About the Non-Executive Director Role:
Non-Executive Directors provide new ways of imagining what ASHA does, provide constructive test and challenge to one another and the Executive Management Team (EMT). Board members shape the future direction of ASHA, ensuring that we are compliant with regulatory standards and that risk is managed. Ultimately, the Board ensures that ASHA is doing what we say we will do to very high standards for our tenants and stakeholders.
Board members and the SID report to the Chair of the Board. The SID will act as a sounding board for the Chair and Chief Executive and provide support and guidance in delivering the strategy, vision, and values of the Association.
Non-Executive Directors Requirements:
Board Members:
- Commitment to supporting vulnerable communities
- Clear understanding of and dedication to achieve our mission and purpose
- Experience of shaping strategy and delivering change at board level and strengthening governance
- Evidence of working collaboratively, while constructively testing and challenging other Board members and members of the Executive Management Team
- Ability to commit the time needed to understand our organisation, and to prepare for and actively contribute to Board discussions
- A strong understanding of governance and regulation
Desirable:
- An understanding of different commercial arrangements and delivery structures
- Reasonable financial expertise
Additionally for the Senior Independent Director, we are looking for an individual with:
- Experience of ideally being a SID / Board member / Office bearer
- Significant understanding of running an organisation and offering pragmatic advice commensurate with the size, shape and needs of ASHA
- Understanding of the Supported Exempt Accommodation (SEA) sector
About the Company:
Ash-Shahada Housing Association is a Muslim-led housing association and currently owns 150 homes and leases a further 51 hostel bed spaces in the London Boroughs of Lambeth, Southwark, and Croydon. We also operate in in Birmingham as a provider of Supported Exempt Accommodation with around 3000 tenants offering much needed housing to disadvantaged groups such as those suffering from domestic violence, refugees, women only, Muslim women only, baby and mother provision, etc.
