Director of Care & Wellbeing – Royal Star and Garter

Established in 1916 to care for the severely injured young men returning from the First World War, Royal Star & Garter has been at the heart of supporting the country’s veteran community for over a century. Services are delivered through three care homes in Solihull, Surbiton and High Wycombe which have been designed to offer residents a new lease of life through outstanding, loving, nursing care and a varied activity programme.

We are a charity with a focus on innovation and excellence, so are looking for an ambitious and creative new Director of Care & Wellbeing who can help us expand services beyond our current homes and across the country through the development of day care, outreach and befriending services. We also have plans to support veterans and their partners in their own homes, and to create a bespoke community for younger veterans living with disabilities. We are also working to have a wider impact on behalf of veterans, so will shortly launch a national ‘veteran-friendly’ accreditation programme for care homes. Your contribution to making these plans a reality will be essential.

Reporting to our Chief Executive and working with a strong executive group and outstanding clinical team, you will be responsible for delivering and further developing our care and wellbeing strategy to ensure continued high-quality services. We are proud of the fact that all of our homes are rated either ‘Good’ or ‘Outstanding‘ by the Care Quality Commission and as our Director of Care & Wellbeing you will help us continue to push for excellence. You will bring evidence of successful management and leadership in health, social care or wider service provision at a senior clinical level, alongside experience working with senior level stakeholders, external agencies, and regulators.  You will likely bring strategic experience within residential care services or services delivered within the community. You will be able to demonstrate integrity, a passion for our cause, emotional intelligence, and excellent communication skills. You will be an innovator, but always with a focus on our mission, our values, our residents, the wider veteran community and our staff team.

Royal Star & Garter is wholly committed to inclusion and diversity, and to building a culture and environment where everyone is appreciated for the unique person that they are.  We warmly encourage applications from a broad range of backgrounds and experiences, including those with lived experience of working in or around the armed forces.
