Courier Facilities Limited (CFL)
Non-Executive Chair
£48,000 for 36 days per annum; 3 year term (renewable)
London Heathrow
Born out of the baggage halls of London Heathrow Airport (LHR), Courier Facilities Limited (CFL) was established 40 years ago with a shareholding from across the industry it serves. The only such licensed courier operation at this location, it provides a critical link for the airlines operating at LHR with the courier / express industry.
As a small business with substantial reach, CFL delivers export, import and screening services for courier / express companies from a single, automated express facility which interfaces with airport handlers and airlines. Operating across a highly regulated, complex stakeholder landscape in support of the courier / express industry, the business is owned by 11 courier / express, logistics and airline companies, with a profit for purpose business model and a unique ownership structure that together underpin a commitment to providing genuinely world class express courier services.
Now experiencing a healthy recovery following the Covid-19 pandemic, CFL is ambitious for the future, keen to build on existing demands for services through further growth and diversification. By 2029, the vision is to be a digitally enabled, globally integrated network of express air courier nodes that is pivotal to global commerce, and universally acknowledged as such. Under the leadership of CFL’s exceptional outgoing Chair, CFL has made substantial progress in support of this vision, through investment in people, automation and digitalisation, data and tech, and through running CFL’s complex Board well to maximise contribution and industry impact.
We are now looking for an experienced Non-Executive Chair with the talent and commitment to lead us on the next stage of our journey. With experience of board leadership during a period of operational growth and/or diversification in a regulated industry, you will have performed a similar role in a complex stakeholder/owner landscape, navigating multiple agendas and dynamic industry conditions to help steer a course to business success. Financially astute and intellectually capable, you will champion continuous improvement and customer excellence, bringing with you a broad commercial skill set, outstanding board and financial governance credentials, and risk management capability.
We are open minded regarding your sector experience and open to securing a fresh perspective on our opportunities and challenges. Regardless of background, we must appoint an inspirational and credible leader of the utmost integrity. Credible at all levels, your experience of multiple business models and understanding of SMEs, coupled with a down to earth approach and ability to build strong, respectful working relationships will be key to success here. In return, we suggest this has the potential to be a personally fulfilling role in which you will work with, perhaps broaden the thinking of, and support the success of a dedicated and talented group who love the industry sector they serve.
We are excited about our future and hope you will consider applying for this important role.
